Members of the Buildings Committee need to monitor the fabric of the building making sure it is safe, secure, adequate and well maintained. They will be made aware of health and safety issues and energy efficiency policies. The school grounds also come under the brief of the Buildings Committee. The committee will advise the full governing body of any improvements, alterations or repairs that are required. The care and upkeep of the premises is a shared responsibility between the Education Authority and the governors. The committee members, therefore, need to refer to the LEA rules and articles for a more precise definition of their functions within this framework.
