School Governors
What is the role of the Staffing Committee?

The staffing committee has the vital function of interviewing and selecting staff. They are responsible for the appointments - although the full governing body must meet to endorse the choice of a head or deputy.

Salaries and contracts are also discussed by this committee and they carry out the annual assessment of staff salaries within the school's pay policy.

Discipline procedures would also be carried out by this committee. It is not possible to cover the complexities of such procedures in this summary. All the relevant information is available in the Authority's 'Local Management of Schools, Manual of Personnel Practice and Procedure', a copy of which is held in every school. In the eventuality of the committee needing to take action in these areas, advice would be sought from the Authority, using the Manual as a basis.
